How I Work: Fridays

Even if we weren’t living in this interesting era of COVID-19 shelter-in-place, my weeks tend not to be like they used to when I was in the corporate environment. A Friday is not really any different than a Monday for me, given that I work strange hours and don’t really have a set “week end”, so I need to take a little more care in structuring my week so that I accomplish all of the things that I want and need to.

Fridays in my neighborhood are trash/recycling days, so recording is difficult. (My mic can pick up the trucks driving up and down the streets for about a block in each direction, despite my sound treated recording space.) It also gets hot in my recording booth later in the day, so recording longer sections of audio becomes rather unpleasant.

So rather than drive myself nuts trying to record things around the truck noise, I dedicate most of it to either editing audio or marketing work. Some of the things on my checklist each week:

  • Schedule social media posts for the following week using Hootsuite

  • Write blog entries (like this)

  • Research potential clients/markets

  • Upload info to my CRM (I’m using Bitrix24’s free version at the moment)

  • Begin my prospecting outreach (I shared that plan here)

  • Create resources for other freelancers/creatives to help with their marketing and sales opportunities

And while I’m thinking about it, here are some of the irons I have in the fire:

  • Producing audiobooks for Plague Arcanist and several other books at the moment

  • Continuing to add to the Audiobook Resource Guide for independent authors

  • Creating elements for the EatDrinkRoll Twitch channel

  • Producing the next episode of the Best Story Ever podcast as we near the halfway point of getting Season 1 in the can

  • Prepping for Sunday’s Team X game (10 am Eastern on Twitch)

  • Writing a guide for the DMs Guild

  • Outlining a YA sci-fi book

I hope you are having a great day, and let me know how I can help you.
